INGLOT REVIEW!

If you’re a makeup junkie like me, then you know just how hard it is to find the perfect eyeshadow palette. Personally, I tend to gravitate towards more natural toned colors, and while the naked palettes are fantastic, I can only last so long before getting bored. Every palette I come across is either too close to ones I already have (i.e. naked palette dupes) or have completely outlandish shades that I know I’ll never use. The only solution I’ve been able to come up with, is why not make your own palette? Most companies I’ve come across that offer this function are a little bit more on the expensive side. And while I love my MAC palette, lately I’ve been craving something more.
I moved to NYC recently and stumbled upon a little store in Times Square called Inglot. I had heard of Inglot in the past by some of my favorite beauty gurus but had never encountered the products first hand. It was an even more magical experience than I imagined it would be. There were trays of eyeshadows everywhere that you got to choose from to build your own palette. The customer service was unlike any I had ever recieved. The sales associate stuck by me as I swatched color after color, dealt with my comments about how some colors were exact MAC dupes, and was even able to deal with my picky habits. All in all, I ended up with a quad palette ($10) and four beautiful (and full sized) shadows for only $6 each.

The first shadow I picked was the beautiful gold that brings out the blue in my eyes more than any color has before. I then chose a warm toned brown color with a hint of copper to it to blend into the crease. I decided that I wanted a darker color to add on when I go out at night, so I chose the dark brown that almost has a purple feel to it. Since all the other colors I got were sparkly, I decided to go with a matte hi-light color.

Never have I ever encountered an eyeshadow as pigmented as the Inglot shades. With only a little bit of shadow on my brush I was left with a sweep of color across my lid that looked EXACTLY like the color in the pan. For makeup junkies like me, you know that’s sometimes a hard thing to achieve.

So to top this post off - I’m completely obsessed with Inglot eyeshadows and completely regret not getting the bigger palette. Let me know what your favorite palettes are below!

(Here's what the shadows looked like on. I have the gold across the lid with the light brown blended into the crease and the mate color as a hi-light!)

I'm Back!

Hey Guys!

I know, I know, I’ve been gone for like - ever. One of my main goals when starting a blog was to take you along with me on my journey to NYC. I’ve been living here for a little over a week now and to say I’m obsessed would be an understatement. When people call New York the city of dreams, they mean it quite literally. I grew up only an hour away so I’ve been here a bunch of times but there’s something so different about actually living here. When my adventure would usually have to come to an end at Penn Station, I get to continue on. Most of you may know this, but I actually moved to the city to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology. It’s a big school in a big city with a big name filled with young doe-eyed kids like me with big dreams. My whole life I was always the “fashion girl” but, being at FIT, everyone’s the “fashion girl”. While you would think that would be make it easier to make friends - I mean we all have something HUGE in common - it actually makes it harder. I’m not used to being friends with myself. Does that even make sense? I’ve never been friends with someone who shared my passion for fashion. Every student here is fighting for the same dream as I am. I could end up working for one of them, or (hopefully) they’ll end up working for me. It’s an idea that’s both exciting and incredibly daunting. Everyday is like a fashion show here, and even in my favorite dress I still feel a tad-bit underdressed. People wear literally anything and everything here, and no one says a word. Outfits that would get me weird looks at home are encouraged. It gives the campus an immense sense of magic. Everyone is so unapologetically themselves and you can’t help but feel to be inspired.

Like any other new school year, I’ve been struck with the need to “re-invent” myself. I’m in a new city with new people. I can quite literally be anyone I want to be. My style tends to vary daily - one day I may be a mini Blair Waldorf, and the next a wannabe hipster. This really only helps me imagine myself in different scenarios. Some days I’m downtown cool in soho, and the next I’m wearing my nicest dress and heels walking into One Direction’s hotel like I own the place. Side-note, yes I did walk into One Direction’s hotel and sadly no, and I did not meet them. Being in New York gives you the chance to be anyone you want to be, which is an incredibly enchanting idea.

So, I’ll leave you guys off here. If you would like to see more blog posts on my adventures in the big apple leave a cheeky little comment below or shoot me a tweet @alamode05

April Beauty Favorites!

Hey Guys!

I decided this month that instead of doing a YouTube video on my april favorites, I would do a blog post instead. This will probably be the only time I do this, but with finals looming overhead this is the easiest way for me to share my current beauty favorites! If you watch my YouTube videos then you may have seen these products before, but if not I hope you find something new!

I’m going to start off with eye products since I have quite a few. The first one is my Nars “And God Created the Woman” pallet. If you watch my videos then you saw me rant and rave about this in a haul video. I’m literally obsessed with this product. It’s perfect for traveling since it’s small (a lot smaller than the Naked palettes) and it has every color you would need. Lately I’ve been obsessed with the last color in the first row and the first color in the second row. They compliment each other so well and make for the perfect day time look.

(Ignore my hand covering the mirror LOL)

My next eye shadow is MAC’s “All That Glitters”. This has been in my collection for almost a year and only got used here and there. Lately I’ve been obsessed with sweeping this over my lids on lazy days. It’s great on it’s own as well as with a cool toned brown (MAC Charcoal Brown?) in the crease. It’s perfect for the spring and summer!

The final eye shadow product the Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo in “Bad to the Bronze”. I’ve had this product for over a year now and I’m pretty sure it’s been included in every favorites video since. It’s perfect on it’s own but lately I’ve found that it makes the perfect base under a smokey eye!

Moving onto brows I have two products. The first is the Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara. I’ve been using this as my brow gel lately and loving it! It keeps everything in place and lasts a lot longer than the ELF brow gel, which is what I had been using before.

Going right along with that I am completely in love with my Tweezerman tweezers. They get every little mirco-hair you can imagine and the pain is significantly less than when using a regular tweezer. They’re a bit pricey but totally worth it.

The last eye product is MAC’s Fast Response Eye Cream. My mom swore my this product for years until she randomly became allergic and passed it down to me. If you’re like me and tend to wake up with puffy eyes (especially after crying) then this is the product for you. I apply it before bed and I’ve noticed that my eyes are a lot less puffy in the morning than when I don’t use it. Plus, it’s never too early to start wearing eye cream.

My next product is one that I’ve had for a while but it somehow got lost in the mix of all my other makeup, and it’s the Benefit Boiing concealer. I apply this to any breakouts or red areas before putting foundation on and it helps give my skin a flawless look. It’s also great at hiding acne scarring.

I have rediscovered my love for the Benefit Boxed Powder in “Dandelion”. It’s the perfect pale pink blush with just the slightest shimmer. I’m pretty pale so this color is perfect for me. It’s not too harsh, but it also doesn’t wash me out.

Finally, I have also rediscovered my love for my Miss Dior Cherie perfume. I tend to only use this perfume in the spring time. The scent is just so girly and whimsical.

So there you have it! I’d love to know what your april favorites are in the comments below!

P.S. I'm still getting used to blogger and can't figure out how to get the pictures perfectly aligned!

Cheetahlicious!

As I was slipping on my cheetah print Steve Madden smoking slippers (current favorite shoes) this morning, I couldn’t help but wonder why women not only today, but for years have been fascinated with cheetah print. I mean, I understand why girls my age are. We clearly haven’t gotten over our dreams of becoming a cheetah girl - I know I’m not the only one. As I thought about it more I quickly realized that there’s something so indescribably sexy yet sophisticated to it. Think about it. You wear your cutest cheetah print undies when you go out. You pull on that cheetah print bodycon dress when you’re hoping for an extra special night. But you also throw on a cheetah print a-line skirt for dinner with your family. Or maybe a simple peplum top for shopping. We wear cheetah when we want to look sexy, and we wear it when we want to look chic. Few prints are able to make that transition the way cheetah print does - and has been doing for years.
For me, cheetah print is one of my three essentials; black, lace, and cheetah.. duh. My current favorite way to rock the print has been on my feet. Lately I can’t help myself from throwing on my cheetah print smoking slippers with any and every outfit. Let it be red jeans and a simple white tank (like I wore today) or dark wash jeans and a brightly colored top. I’ve found that mixing in a cheetah shoe has been the perfect way to ease myself into spring clothing. A cheetah shoe adds a pop to the outfit that makes it seem like you have it all together.. even when you’re sleep-deprived and have three papers and a final exam looming over your head. It says “look at me I’m super cute and chic” while also saying “look how bold and brave I am”. Cheetah flats are the perfect way to make a statement while trying to be comfortable on the go. Alas, I guess I should end my cheetah rant here. I leave you with some of my favorite current cheetah print pieces to incorporate into your spring wardrobe.

My favorite Steve Madden's!

Well Hello There!

Hey Guys!
So I figure my first post on here should just be a bit of an introduction; even though I’m 99% sure every single person reading this is here because I shamelessly promoted it on my youtube channel. If by chance you’re that 1% then hello! My name’s Kayla and I’m an 18 year old college freshman. I’m also a self-proclaimed fashionista with a love for all things British. I make YouTube videos (alamode5). I’ve been thinking about starting a blog for a loooooooong time. When first moving to college it was my ultimatum to myself for possibly having to quit YouTube (thankfully I didn’t). Lately I’ve been obsessed with fashion blogs and I’ve decided that now is the time for me to start. I’m also moving to New York City at the end of the summer and transferring to the Fashion Institute of Technology. A lot of things are changing for me. So while this blog will most likely be fashion and beauty, I’m going to throw in some posts about life in general and hopefully bring you along on my journey in New York. For those of you who watch my videos, you may get to see a different side of me. There’s a lot I can’t say on YouTube but here I can lay it all out. So buckle up, because here we gooooooo!

XOXO
